As you may know, we work with bloggers and organizational experts across the country to discuss how classifieds can be valuable to you and your family. These ambassadors are savvy business women that provide insights into a variety of topics including parenting, home organization, technology tools, making extra money and running a household – just to name a few. Beyond sharing their expertise and personal experiences, they also work with us to provide feedback on the site and useful tips on how to use classifieds in our everyday lives.
In short, these ambassadors have a lot to offer and we will be featuring Q&A posts in the next couple months so you can get to know them better. For the first installment, we would like to introduce Julie Hibbs, an organizational expert and owner of Squared Away, based in Houston, TX.
Q: Why and when did you get started in the organization business?
A: I started Squared Away in 1999. I am so passionate about the benefits of being organized in my own life, that I dreamed of having a job that allowed me to teach others how to get and stay organized for a less stressful, more meaningful life.
Q: What stands out as the best thing that’s happened as a result of your business?
A: The best thing about my job is being able to spend every day working with people who are so appreciative and grateful for the service we provide. What a great way to spend the day!
Q: When you encounter a new client, where do you start? Is it always the same process?
A: My company, Squared Away, offers a free consultation and that is how we start with most of our clients, which primarily consists of local families and businesses. The consultation allows the client to meet someone from our team and we have the opportunity to get a feel for the client’s organizing challenges, needs and priorities. It also gives us the opportunity to determine whether or not product or tools are needed for the job. If so, we can come prepared to the first appointment with everything we need.
Q: How do you use eBay Classifieds? Can you provide an example of one item you bought or sold eBay Classifieds?
A: I have the eBay Classifieds iPhone application on my phone and when I am working with a client who is interested in selling some of their things instead of donating – I show them the app and explain to them how easy and fast it is to upload items for sale. It’s a great way for me to encourage the clients to get rid of things they really don’t want or need, but are holding onto because they feel that they paid too much money for it.
Q: What one tip would you give those trying online classifieds for the first time?
A: Go slow and enjoy the process.
